Well, Saturday’s lesson was fun. We learned how to make eBooks and how to look for eBooks on the web. We also learned how to transfer our “homemade” eBooks to our handhelds using the bluetooth adaptor.
Can you imagine how light student backpacks could be if all textbooks were eBooks?!?!?! I was thinking of making my own eBooks for 6th grade because most of them have their personal handhelds. They can take it home and review the material anytime they want.
Now, setting up the bluetooth was a different story. For others, it was easy as the name of their handhelds appeared immediately. For the rest, it was a bit frustrating because their handheld names wouldn’t show up in the bluetooth list. Well, I tried to trouble shoot by checking if their handhelds had an “owner’s name.” Nope, they didn’t. So, feeling proud and dandy of myself, I told them to try again. Hmmmmpppp! No dice! Then Rolly told them to check the bluetooth “device name”. Lo and behold, there was no name there! So, they had to write in their name. And so, it worked…
Lesson learned — device name and owner’s name — not the same — you have to program both areas!
The class was also treated to the amazing world of infrared printing. I was assigned and “antique” laser printer with an infrared receiver built-in. Rolly also demonstrated infrared printing with the newer laser printer via an infrared adaptor. Worked like a charm! Well, antique or not, it works perfectly!

That just goes to show that you ain’t too old to learn new tricks (right, Bill???)
